Characteristics and Vita

Igor Navrotskyi was born in Nitra (SK) in 1971 and studied from 1992 to 1998 at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev, where he met and came to appreciate Tatiana Siedlova. The two belong to that rare species of classical artist couples who manage to positively "cross-fertilize" each other in their artistic work and continuously develop it. In addition, they plan and organized all management agendas and benefit sustainably from this symbiosis.

The fusion of tradition and modernity became the distinctive artistic expression of the two.

Both believe in the power of individuality, appreciate the craftsmanship and the art of the old masters. They revere Rembrandt (late phase), Caravaggio, Goya and the Russian artists such as Repin or Kramskoi. Like the old masters, they work with many layers of paint, creating a unique impression of depth, transparency and plasticity. Their classical technique requires a high degree of sensitivity, skill and patience and makes them unique in the contemporary Slovak art scene.

The play with light and shadow and the allegories, metaphors and narratives of ancient stories always contain a bit of romantic drama and scenic art and deal with the relationship of individuals to each other and to society. Stylistically, they can be classified as realistic artists with a perception of abstract poetics and symbolism.

The basic themes: allegorical scenes, stylized portraits, nudes, still lifes, depictions of animals, often mixed with humorous ideas. Navrotskyi embarks on a traditional track with his classic figures such as Dreadful dream of Don Quixote, Ivan the Terrible, Night-bird or the Replica of Caravaggio/Boybite lizard, which exquisitely brings his craftsmanship into focus. Tradition often meets cynicism, history is critically rehashed. Contrast the delicate, graceful flower paintings and classically beautiful works like Light and shadow,I do not see. I can not hear. I do not speak, all of which convince through excellent composition and color brilliance and Küberzeugen.

Navrotskyi's works can be found in public and private collections in Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA and Australia.

In addition to painting, the couple organizes art workshops and coordinates educational activities (teaching classical art techniques), supporting many children, young talents and adults from Slovakia and Ukraine. Also noteworthy is the extensive charity work for the sick and handicapped. Member of the Association of Fine Artists in Ukraine and later in Slovakia.
